Our not-for-profit heritage allows us to give back to the causes we value. We’ve donated over £15,000,000 since 1966 to causes that support people’s health and wellbeing. As Westfield Health grows as an organisation, we continue to give back to those around us.

Our social responsibility is split into four sections:

  • Our people – We are proud to be an Investors in People (IiP) Gold accredited organisation. We create a healthy, supportive, fair and diverse workplace that puts people first.
  • Community – We fund great causes, volunteer our time and skills and work to build long-term community partnerships.
  • Social equality – We address root causes of underlying inequality in our society. We recognise that health and wellbeing is a privilege for many and is key to building healthy, fair and equal communities.
  • Our environment – Nature is vital to our health and wellbeing. We aim to make long-standing changes that contribute to a positive environment for generations to come.

Our ‘giving back’ framework enables us to demonstrate, monitor and improve our commitment to our purpose and values whilst acting on some of the biggest challenges facing the world today. Here’s some highlights of what we’ve given back in 2024.

Defibrillator donations

We have donated 92 defibrillator units across the UK since 2016, with six of those being in 2024. These go to workplaces, community centres, schools, visitor attractions, churches and sports venues, always in partnership with Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS).

To apply for a defibrillator, fill in a request form here.

Volunteering

Volunteering is an important part of our Westfield Way. We encourage our people to make a difference to any cause that has an impact. We recently renewed our internal volunteering policy so volunteer days are uncapped for our employees.

This year, we have over 400 hours of internal volunteering support. Here’s some highlights from our team:

The British Transplant Games

Transplant survivors from as young as five compete in the British Transplant Games with more than 25 sporting events for all abilities. We hit record numbers at this year’s Games as we were joined by 300 volunteers, 973 competitors, 1,417 supporters, and 176 live donors.

Our partnership with the British Transplant Games is really special because we share a very similar purpose to improve quality of life and make a real difference. Every time I come to the Games, I cannot help but be totally inspired not just by the donor families and the recipients of transplants. It’s everybody coming together just to celebrate the gift of life. – Dave Capper, CEO at Westfield Health

Mencap

Our UK Finance team volunteered in aid of Sheffield Mencap, an independent charity supporting people with a learning disability or autism, and their family and carers. The team put spades to the ground and helped them revamp their garden.

I’m proud of our little team and what we could do in one day. We really took the Westfield Way to heart. Everyone took ownership of their corner and at the end of the day the parts were greater than the whole. Despite being physically exhausted we all received a huge helping of wellbeing for our efforts. Thanks Westfield, for a terrific programme. We raise our spades to you.

St Luke’s

The Marketing and Propositions team volunteered at St Luke’s donation centre, a charity that provides compassionate, no-cost care for people aged 18+ facing terminal illnesses. The group got hands-on with organising twelve and a half cages of donated stock.

Really lovely day, nice group of people and got to chat to team members who I don’t always work with too. The team at the charity were super helpful and informative, felt like I learnt a lot about the scale of St Luke’s work and what the donations help support within the community.

Our Giving Back Committee

We’re proud of our not-for-profit heritage and are passionate about making a healthy difference. We have no shareholders, so the more successful we are the more we can give back to those around us.

Our Giving Back Committee have chosen to share their donations across 45 causes in 2024. Here’s what some of our donations have contributed to the causes:

Yorkshire Air Ambulance

The only helicopter emergency medical service operating across Yorkshire, saving lives every day. They fly a critical care team of doctors and advanced trauma paramedics to the scene of an incident, providing time-critical intensive care wherever the patient is.

We donated the provision of a consultant doctor on board their Air Ambulance helicopter each day of the year.

Listening Place

They offer face-to-face support for people who feel that life is no longer worth living.

We funded their face-to-face support for people who feel suicidal; this was for eight people for as long as it takes to reduce their suicidal feelings.

Royal Society for Blind Children

They provide children with sight loss with a combination of support, learning, and development opportunities to help them build the resilience, and help with the skills they will need to navigate their own futures.

We donated towards their Families First Service. A practitioner provides a year of support to two families with a vision impaired child to set Goal Based Outcomes for the young person to work towards.

Darnall Dementia Trust

They provide day care in a safe environment for enjoyment, warmth, respect and friendship, including involving people in relevant, appropriate, interesting, stimulating and enjoyable activities.

Our donation was used to cover the increase in rates for their room rental. The room is used for their day centre service supporting local people with Dementia.

Care for Veterans

To provide permanent or respite accommodation, end-of-life care, and outpatient care for former members of the British Armed Forces and their families. They help those who need care due to age, sickness, or disability and who require nursing care or rehabilitation.

We made a contribution to refurbish their currently unused onsite hydrotherapy pool to benefit physically disabled veterans.
