Businesses have a responsibility to look after their employees, and that starts with creating a culture where people are actively encouraged to prioritise their health. A holistic approach helps engage the whole workforce and gives them access to the support they need, when they need it.
Workforces are now often split across different locations and work patterns, so it’s more important than ever for wellbeing programmes to be flexible and inclusive in their design.
Over half of employees (51%) said their mental health affected their productivity last year, and while we commonly talk about mental and physical health separately, they’re often completely intertwined. So how can businesses make sure they’re offering holistic wellbeing support that’s really benefitting their people?
‘In Pursuit of Wellness’, a new series presented by the Global Wellness Institute and produced by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions, dives into the world of wellness.
The second of its kind, this online branded film series, which includes a film produced for us, explores how cultures and communities have been practising wellness through centuries and passing the learnings down generations.
One third of our life is spent at work, so for many of us that means spending 90,000 hours at work over our lifetime, but wellbeing support shouldn’t end when the employee leaves the building.
This means providing support on-demand and in a personalised style which adapts to the individual’s lifestyle — and that could include everything from help with back pain, to nutrition, to mindfulness. So how can businesses meet this growing expectation for flexible support?
A whole-of-workforce approach is all about creating the right conditions for people to look after their health. The aim isn’t to involve every single employee with every workplace wellbeing initiative, but rather to offer people the opportunity to engage with their health in a way that suits them.
Looking after our everday health is an important preventative measure and employers can support their people to make healthy choices both in and outside the workplace. Flexibility is a valuable perk for workers, so access to support needs to be flexible too.
Wellbeing support needs to be where your people are, which is often in digital spaces. Wellness apps not only give us access to health resources in our pocket — they allow us to share our progress and interact with a supportive community.
“It’s easy to think of business in terms of the numbers: revenue, profit, sales, number of new clients. But in my experience, what truly drives a business is its people.
You’ve got to create the right experiences that help people navigate their journeys, their adversities and build on their successes.
Partnering with TRUCONNECT helps us deliver a whole-of-workforce solution spanning both corporate wellbeing and gym management.”
